Apple Cider Vinegar Foot Soak For Neuropathy

Apple Cider Vinegar Foot Soak For Neuropathy: I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in March 2013, by my doctor at Kaiser Permanente near San Francisco, California. The diagnosis came after I had been complaining of tingling in my feet for six months or so. I didn’t think much about it until I started having pain on my right foot where my big toe used to be. Then it spread to other areas of my feet and up my legs. My left leg also began feeling numb and weak. I went to see an osteopath who said that this could have something to do with the nerves running from my toes through my ankles and into my calf muscles. He suggested massaging my ankle daily with oil; he claimed it would help “re-energize” those nerves. It did not work.

This is what I learned later about neuropathy. If you’re suffering from any type of nerve damage, whether it’s caused by diabetes, HIV/AIDS, alcoholism, autoimmune diseases, cancer treatment, Lyme disease, rheumatoid arthritis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, MS, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, shingles, Bells palsy, Guillain Barré Syndrome, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, Alzheimer’s disease, kidney failure, liver problems, heart attack, thyroid dysfunction, or any other cause, your body may experience some form of burning, itching, shooting, electric shock, stabbing, numbness, pins and needles feelings, muscle weakness, cramps, tightness, stiffness, loss of balance, dizziness, slurred speech, double vision, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, chest pains, irregular heartbeat, and even fainting spells.

Although these symptoms sound like they’d come from a sci-fi movie, they’re actually real. They’re just the result of damaged nerves. Nerves carry messages between the brain and various parts of our bodies. When there’s a problem sending the message, then we get all kinds of strange sensations. That’s why doctors refer to them as “symptoms.”

If you’ve ever experienced tingling, burning, prickling, sharp pains, numbness, pins, and needles, or anything else, chances are you have peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathies affect the nerves in different places — usually the extremities and the trunk of the body. There are many types, including diabetic neuropathy, chemotherapy neuropathy, alcoholic neuropathy, traumatic injury neuropathy, inflammatory bowel disease neuropathy, multiple sclerosis neuropathy, etc. Many people don’t know they have peripheral neuropathy because the symptoms aren’t very noticeable.

So how does one go about getting rid of the symptoms? Well, unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to treat the condition itself. But there is a lot you can do to manage your symptoms. Here are two things I tried before finding out about apple cider vinegar.

Treatments You Can Try At Home

1. Apply Ice Pack
The first thing I did when I realized my symptoms were serious was to apply ice packs to my feet. This worked well for several days. Afterward, I found that I needed to reapply new ice every half hour if I wanted the cold sensation to subside. Also, I discovered that if I put my socks over my shoes instead of taking off my shoes whenever I got home, I felt less discomfort.

2. Take A Hot Shower Or Bath
Another thing I tried was to take hot showers or baths. Again, this seemed to provide relief for several days. However, while showering or bathing, I noticed that the hot water made me sweat more than normal. As a result, I stopped using bathwater and only took showers. This helped considerably.

3. Use An OTC Pain Reliever
When my symptoms became worse, I decided to try acetaminophen, which is commonly known by its brand name Tylenol. In fact, I’m sure most Americans know Tylenol simply by sight. Acetaminophen has long been used to relieve pain and fever, but recently it has become popular among sufferers of chronic conditions such as headaches, backaches, menstrual cramps, sprains, strains, and lower backache due to herniated discs.

Acetaminophen relieves pain by reducing inflammation and swelling. It works best against mild to moderate pain. People with severe pain should consult their physician immediately. Those with high blood pressure should avoid taking too much acetaminophen. Some studies show that it can increase the risk of liver damage and death in patients with certain medical conditions.

4. Apply Calamine Lotion To Your Feet And Legs
Calamine lotion contains natural rubber and zinc oxide, and it helps reduce skin irritation and itchiness. Although calamine doesn’t contain antihistamines, it still provides temporary relief from allergic reactions, hives, welts, rashes, and insect bites. It will also ease redness, burns, blisters, cuts, scrapes, stings, and sunburns.

5. Drink Lots Of Water
Drinking lots of water is probably the single most important thing you can do to improve your health. Dehydration causes fatigue, constipation, dry mouth, headache, irritability, depression, memory loss, poor concentration, paleness, nausea, diarrhea, and frequent urination.

6. Eat Foods Rich In Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Omega fatty acids are essential nutrients that act as lubricants in joints. They help prevent cartilage breakdown and strengthen connective tissues. They also play vital roles in promoting healthy brain function and growth and regulating bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, immune system response, energy production, hormone regulation, cell membrane integrity, and nervous system activity.

7. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep deprivation leads to stress, anxiety, confusion, lack of focus, mood swings, and poor decision-making. One study showed that people who slept five hours per night for three nights lost their ability to recognize faces. Another study showed that sleep deprivation affected learning capacity. Lack of sleep also impairs judgment, reaction time, performance on tests, and motor skills.

8. Exercise Regularly
Exercising regularly improves cardiovascular health, strengthens bones and muscles, increases flexibility, reduces tension and stress, raises energy levels, and promotes weight control. Exercises include walking, swimming, stretching, yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, tennis, racquetball, hiking, aerobics, bicycling, jogging, dancing, gardening, housework, yard work, and strength training exercises.

9. Breathe Deeply
Breathing deeply helps oxygenate your bloodstream, relaxes your muscles and slows down your heart rate. It also lowers blood pressure and regulates your respiratory patterns.

10. Manage Stress
Stress affects us physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Chronic stress can lead to physical illness, emotional disorders, mental illnesses, and spiritual distress. If you suffer from chronic stress, you may find yourself depressed, anxious, angry, impatient, tired, forgetful, unable to concentrate, easily agitated, restless, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or unable to cope.

11. Keep A Journal
Keeping a journal can help keep track of your day-to-day activities, emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Writing about stressful events can help you understand why you feel stressed and give you ideas for coping strategies. Keeping a diary can help you express your feelings and release anger and frustration.

12. Schedule Time With Family & Friends
Schedule time with family and friends every week. Set aside time to talk about what’s going on in your life and share your experiences. Find ways to enjoy each other’s company. Make memories together!

13. Avoid Exposure To Environmental Pollutants
Environmental pollutants can make you sick, especially children who spend more of their time outdoors. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. Limit exposure to secondhand smoke. Don’t use tanning beds. Wear protective clothing such as hats, sunglasses, gloves, and long sleeves. Consider buying air purifiers for your home.

14. Be Careful What You Put On Your Skin
Use products that are non-toxic and free of dyes, fragrances, preservatives, sunscreen agents, petroleum, parabens, talc, and SLS. Avoid harsh cleaning products and laundry detergent. Wash hair thoroughly and gently. Rinse with a gentle shampoo and rinse again. Always follow labels carefully.

15. Protect Yourself From Sunlight
Sunshine prevents wrinkles and freckles, stimulates collagen formation, and strengthens bone tissue. It also keeps the immune system strong and protects against cancer, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases. Too much sunlight can lead to blindness, particularly in people aged 50 years old and older.

16. Live A Healthy LifeStyle
Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, lean protein, nuts, seeds, fish, poultry, and beans. Include plenty of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in your food choices. Choose foods that are naturally sweetened such as fresh fruit, raw honey, sugar substitutes, and agave nectar. Have regular meals and snacks
