Does Fapping Help You Sleep

“When you hear the word “”masturbate,”” what comes to mind? Is it a sexy thing that only horny people do, or something embarrassing that should be kept secret? Maybe it’s both. If so, like most Americans, you’re probably masturbating wrong.
There are many ways to masturbate, including touching yourself with your hand or using sex toys, but for this article we’ll focus on the old school method of just rubbing one out. And if you’re not familiar with masturbation yet, we highly recommend reading our guide here.
The benefits of self-pleasure are well documented. The National Center on Sexual Health & Responsible Behavior at the University of Wisconsin found masturbation can reduce pain, improve sleep quality, and increase sexual desire. A study published by the Journal of Sex Research found that women who masturbated daily were more likely to have better orgasms during intercourse than those who didn’t. Another study showed that masturbation can decrease anxiety levels among cancer patients. (It also decreases their need for sedatives.) As such, there are plenty of reasons why masturbation is important for everyone. But does fapping actually help us sleep better?
“”I think it definitely has a calming effect,”” says Dr. Jennifer Mascaro, PhD., author of Sex Matters for Women: A Woman’s Guide to Sexual Pleasuring and Satisfaction and Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center. She notes that while it may take time to notice a difference, after weeks of doing it regularly, she noticed her insomnia was improved.
Dr. Robert O’Brien, MD, director of the Center for Medicine Without Borders in Haiti, agrees. He told Men’s Journal he used to wake up several times each night to go to the bathroom then lie in bed worrying about his work. Now, since starting to masturbate every day, he sleeps through the night without waking up once. “Masturbation calms me down before I go to sleep,” he said.
So, how exactly does it calm you down? Like anything else, it depends on what kind of person you are. For example, when my wife and I first started trying it, neither of us could fall asleep right away. We’d get distracted from the feeling of pleasure and end up having sex anyway. So, we had to find a way to keep ourselves focused on the task at hand — which was masturbating. Eventually, we learned to tell ourselves that if we start getting aroused, we can stop anytime we want. In fact, it became sort of a game where we would try to make it last as long as possible.
Some people experience similar issues because they don’t know how to properly use their hands. Most of us have been taught masturbation techniques that involve thrusting our hips forward vigorously. This approach doesn’t work for everyone, especially those who experience pelvic floor problems. That’s when someone might learn how to touch themselves from behind instead or figure out another technique altogether.
One woman I spoke to, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared that she likes to use two fingers to stimulate herself. “If I want to really enjoy myself, I will use a lot of pressure on my clitoris,” she explained. “My husband thinks that sounds painful, but I love it!” Some people prefer to use a vibrator rather than their own hands. According to Dr. Mascaro, research shows that men who use a vibrator tend to experience longer periods between erections than those who use their hands. With either option, it’s important to remember to breathe deeply throughout masturbation, and to always use clean products.
Of course, there are plenty of other factors that affect whether masturbation helps you sleep better. For example, if you’re stressed out about something, masturbation can become associated with feelings of relief, so it can bring comfort and relaxation. Or, if you have trouble falling asleep, maybe it’s because you’re anxious. Then, masturbation becomes linked with feelings of being relaxed and happy, which can lead to deeper sleep.
And yes, it’s true that masturbation can cause overactive muscles, making it harder to fall asleep. However, that’s also true of masturbation itself. When done correctly, masturbation can be safe and healthy. There’s no reason not to give it a shot. ”
