How Long Should I Soak My Feet In Epsom Salt? I was in the middle of reading an article on the New York Times website about how to care for one’s feet when springtime arrived and my husband came home with a package containing two white, fluffy towels. He said that someone at work had given him those towels as part of his employee wellness program. When he saw me standing there holding a pair of socks, he asked if they were clean. “Yes,” I replied. Then he handed me a small plastic bag filled with Epsom salts. “Here are some Epsom salts,” he said. I opened it up and found a half-cup scoop inside.

“What is this?” I asked. “It’s Epsom salts.” “Oh,” I said. “Do you need me to soak my feet in them every day or just once a week?” “Once a week would be great,” he said. “You can do it twice a week,” he added. Now what? How long should I soak my feet in Epsom salts? This wasn’t something I’d ever heard of before. I looked around the house — did we have any Epsom salts anywhere? No such luck. But then again, maybe I could ask our family doctor if she knew anything about soaking feet in Epsom salts. She might know! Nope. Our family physician didn’t even know where to find Epsom salts. We went through Google searches and Amazon listings but couldn’t find any product called Epsom salts. There are products labeled magnesium sulfate, sodium sulfate, and potassium sulfate, among others, but none of these appear to contain Epsom salts. The closest thing appears to be Epsom salt bath powder. (Side note: If you’re looking for Epsom salts, Epsom salts baths are not even close.)

So I decided to try out Epsom salts myself. I dissolved a half-cup of Epsom salt into a tub or bowl of warm water. I poured it in until the water turned cloudy. I left it alone for five minutes or so to see what happened. It seemed like everything got very quiet.

All of a sudden, a massive cloud of tiny little bubbles formed around the surface of the murky liquid. They continued to grow and spread throughout the water, finally reaching the bottom after about ten minutes. Once they reached the bottom, they stayed there for another fifteen minutes. After all that bubbling, I thought I wouldn’t want to put my feet in the water anymore. But I figured since my feet had been soaked in Epsom salts for twenty minutes, they must be OK now. So I stepped back into the tub and submerged both feet completely. To my surprise, my feet felt soft and silky smooth. They also smelled amazing. And I noticed that my calluses had started to peel off. Why hadn’t anyone told me Epsom salts worked this way?!

After discovering this wonderful factoid, I began soaking my feet in Epsom salts every other day. I’ve only tried this method for four weeks, but I’m happy to report that my feet feel softer than they’ve ever felt in their entire lives. They look healthier too. I think the Epsom salts are doing something magical to my skin. I hope everyone else will give Epsom salts a chance and experience this miracle treatment. Here are a few tips on how to use Epsom salts properly.

First off, Epsom salts can really help get rid of dead skin cells and soften rough spots. The best time to apply Epsom salts to your feet is right after you take a shower. That’s because Epsom salts are most effective when you first expose your feet to them. You’ll notice that the bubbles stop forming immediately after you pour the Epsom salts into the water. It seems like the bubbles disappear overnight. Soaking your feet in Epsom salts while you bathe is ideal because you won’t have to worry about bubbles getting trapped under your toes.

Epsom salts can also be used to treat dry cracked heels. Just apply a thin layer of Epsom salts directly onto the affected areas. Leave it on for about 15 minutes. Rinse well with cold water and pat dry. Repeat this process several times per week.

Now here’s the real kicker. Epsom salts can also be used to cure athletes’ feet by applying a thick paste made from Epsom salts and cornmeal. Mix together 1/3 cup Epsom salts and 2 tablespoons cornmeal. Apply to the infected area and cover with a bandage. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and rinse away. Repeat this process daily until the infection clears up.

There are many benefits to using Epsom salts regularly. For example, Epsom salts can reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and promote healthy nail growth. They can also help prevent constipation and diarrhea, which is good news for people who suffer from either condition. One study showed that Epsom salts helped patients improve their mood. Finally, Epsom salts can help reduce muscle cramps, spasms, and twitching. Best of all, Epsom salts don’t cause any harmful side effects whatsoever.

If you haven’t yet experienced the wonders of Epsom salts, give it a shot. As far as I’m concerned, Epsom salts are a staple in my household. I love them!
