How Often Do You Need Botox

If you were an actor in a movie set hundreds of years ago, you would have been glad that you could use Botox because it allowed you to look older and more weathered at will. In fact, many actresses often use this cosmetic procedure to enhance their appearance as they get older so that they can play characters much older than their actual age. It’s called “playing make-up.” Today, however, people are using Botox not only to play make-up but also to make real improvements to their own looks. If you want to know how often you should get Botox injections, then read on!

Botox was discovered by Dr. Frederick W. Boring in 1964 when he accidentally injected botulinum toxin type A into his patient’s eye muscle. This particular chemical agent has since become popularly known as Botox. The beauty industry now uses this substance to treat several different conditions and to improve certain aspects of one’s physical appearance. One common application is to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes. Another possible usage is to lift sagging eyelids and droopy eyebrows. Still another possibility is to smooth out crow’s feet and frown lines.

The effects of Botox typically last for up to three to four months. Therefore, the recommended treatment is once every three to four months. Nonetheless, if your facial muscles begin to train themselves to contract less, the period of time for each treatment may be extended longer than three or four months. Also, if you choose to receive multiple treatments during one session, then the interval between sessions must be spaced apart no less than two weeks. In addition, if you decide to use Botox primarily to relax your face rather than to improve its appearance, then there are no restrictions on the frequency with which you can do so.

When you think about it, it makes sense why having a wrinkle free face makes you look younger than your chronological age. After all, it is just the opposite for someone who has a wrinkled face. When you see a person who has deep creases and folds on her face, she might seem much older than her true age. On the other hand, someone whose face is completely relaxed tends to appear much younger. For example, if you take a close look at a young child’s face, you will notice that most of them have a very relaxed expression even though they don’t have any wrinkles yet. As adults tend to mimic children’s faces, it is easy to understand why some people believe that Botox injections help them look younger than their chronological ages.

Now that you know what happens when you use Botox, let’s talk about how often you need these injections. First off, before you go ahead with getting Botox injections, you should consult with your doctor first. He or she needs to evaluate your overall health status to determine whether you are healthy enough for surgery, medications or cosmetics such as Botox. Once he or she gives you the OK, then you will discuss with your dermatologist how often you should receive Botox injections. Typically, the recommended treatment is once every three to four months. However, if you feel that your skin condition warrants additional treatments, then you can ask your physician to give you the okay to receive injections more frequently. Nevertheless, if your facial muscles begin to train themselves to contract less, the period of time for each treatment may be extended longer than three or four months. Also, if you choose to receive multiple treatments during one session, then the interval between sessions must be spaced apart no less than two weeks. As mentioned previously, the effects of Botox typically last for three to four months. However, if you find yourself needing Botox again sooner, then your doctor might recommend that you try a little bit harder to relax your facial muscles. Or, maybe your doctor will suggest that you increase the dosage of Botox that you inject into your face. Regardless of your decision, keep in mind that you still have to wait at least two weeks after receiving a dose of Botox before you get ready for the next injection. If you find that you are unable to tolerate the side effects from Botox, then your doctor might advise you to stop taking this medication altogether. Of course, if you ever experience pain while injecting Botox, then you should immediately contact your doctor right away.

Since Botox works by paralyzing certain facial muscles, it does cause temporary paralysis. Some patients complain about dryness or itching after receiving injections. If you experience any symptoms like this, then you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor can prescribe medications to relieve those uncomfortable feelings. Lastly, if you decide to receive Botox injections, then you should avoid activities such as drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, or performing strenuous exercise for 24 hours prior to your appointment. These precautions are necessary in order to prevent complications from occurring.
