How To Get Rid Of Tired Looking Eyes

“You’re driving home from work late one evening after you got caught up on paperwork. You are tired and just want to get home as quickly as possible. As you merge onto the highway with traffic moving at 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour), you notice that something is wrong…  your right eye keeps twitching…
After some quick thought and consideration, you decide that it’s probably because of all the computer screen time you’ve been doing today. The next day when you go into work, you ask for help from an IT guy about what may be causing this problem. He checks out your machine and everything seems fine. He thinks maybe there is a virus or malware issue going on? After checking again, he tells you that the problem is most likely due to how much you spend staring at screens every day.
As a computer user myself, I’m sure we can agree that our eyes do suffer sometimes from too much use of computers and other electronic devices like tablets, smart phones and televisions. We also know that these activities usually cause us to become more tired than usual. But if you have noticed that your eyes seem to be getting tired more often now, then here are a few tips on how to relieve tired looking eyes.
Apply A Warm Washcloth.. Try a washcloth soaked in warm water on your tired, achy eyes. Adjust Lights and Device Screens. Wear Computer Eyeglasses. Palm Your Eyes. Change Your Computer Setup. Try Tea Bags. Do Eye Exercises. Take Screen Breaks.
Washcloth Tip #1 – Use a clean cloth to apply the cool washcloth to your eyes. Never use dirty or oily rags or paper towels as they will only irritate your eyes further. If you don’t have a handkerchief, try using a cotton ball instead.
Adjusting Light Bulbs & Devices – It has long been known by many people that their eyes feel better when they are not constantly exposed to bright lights. For example, if you read e-mails or surf web pages primarily using your laptop computer, then consider adjusting the brightness of the screen so that it isn’t so bright. Also, make sure that any device screens such as cell phone displays, television sets, etc., aren’t set too close to your face. This means that you should keep them away from your field of vision while watching TV. In addition, try wearing sunglasses whenever you are outside in sunlight. Sunglasses with blue blocking lenses reduce glare and fatigue symptoms caused by light exposure.
Eye Exercise Tips – There are several things you can do to relieve tired looking eyes. One of the best ways to do this is through the practice of eye exercises. By exercising your eyes, you stretch out the muscles around the eyes which helps to improve circulation. In turn, this improves how well nutrients get delivered to the eyes, making them healthier overall.
The following are a few simple eye exercise techniques you can perform easily at home without having to pay for expensive equipment or visit a health club.
Palming Technique – With your palm facing upwards, cup both hands over your eyes and press down firmly. Hold it for 5 seconds and then release. Repeat 10 times. Keep your palms cupped over your eyes for 2 minutes.
Crossed Eyes Exercise – Sit straight upright in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Place your crossed arms on your chest with your fingers pointing towards the ceiling. Gently hold your head still with your chin slightly tilted upward. Keeping your eyes closed, slowly raise your eyebrows until they form a “”V”” shape. Lower your eyebrows back down and repeat 15 times.
Open-Close-Open Exercise – Using your thumb, gently open and close your eyelids repeatedly for 15 to 20 times each session. Make sure that you close your eyes tightly first before opening them wide.
Do Not Look At White Text On Black Background – When reading text online or on black backgrounds, look at the colored letters instead of the white ones. This reduces the amount of strain on your eyes since the colors of the letters give you more information rather than just solid shapes.
Change Your Computer Setup – Most of the above tips involve changing your current habits and routines regarding your computer usage. However, you can also change your computer setup itself to relieve tired eyes. Some suggestions include:
Use Dark Theme Colors – Many popular websites offer dark themes nowadays. While this might not be ideal for those who enjoy seeing the actual content on the page, it does help to alleviate eye strain.
Try Reading Ebooks And Articles On Other Websites – Another option would be to find alternative sites where you can read articles and books.
Take Screen Breaks – Taking regular breaks from computer usage is essential to avoid eye fatigue. Find a good reason to take a break during your busy schedule and plan accordingly. Then, simply walk away from your desk or table and relax for a couple of minutes.
Tea Bag Treatment – Drinking hot tea bags can be beneficial in relieving eye pains and fatigue. Just soak two teabag leaves in boiling water and place them over your eyes for five minutes. Remove them and rinse off with cold water. Repeat three times per day.
Computer Glasses Tip – The key to avoiding eye fatigue is to always wear proper eyewear. Wearing glasses properly will ensure that your eyes receive enough protection from harmful UV rays and particles coming from monitors. Even though computer glasses may not be stylish, they could save your eyesight!
Taking care of your eyes is important especially if you spend lots of time on a computer. The following article contains additional tips on how to relieve tired looking eyes.
Tired Eyes Cause From Too Much Time Staring Into Computer Monitors Or Watching Television
If you think that keeping your eyes healthy is important, then you must take extra precautionary measures to protect yourself from eye injuries. Here are a few tips on how to relieve exhausted looking eyes.
For starters, never sit too close to your monitor. Your monitor should be at least 30 inches away from you. This allows you to see the entire screen clearly. If you find yourself sitting too close to your computer monitor, then adjust the height of the screen higher.
Keep your eyes focused on the top center area of your monitor screen. Avoid looking at the sides of the screen. Always focus on the middle of the screen. Do not stare into the screen itself. Rather, look at objects placed horizontally across the screen. These objects serve as focal points for your eyes.
Avoid direct sunlight. Sunlight causes dryness of the eyes resulting in blurred vision. So, if you cannot avoid being outdoors during peak hours, then wear sunglasses.
Never sleep with your head directly against your computer monitor. Although it sounds counterintuitive, sleeping with your head turned toward the side of the screen will result in less eye movement and therefore minimize the likelihood of straining your eyes.
Drinking plenty of fluids is very important to keep your body hydrated. This applies to your eyes as well. Sufficient amounts of fluid intake is necessary to maintain optimum blood flow to the eyes. Dehydration causes dry, irritated eyes. Drink at least 8 ounces of water before eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During daytime, drink approximately eight glasses of liquids per day. Water is the preferred choice.
Exercise regularly. Regular physical activity increases circulation throughout the body including to the eye area. It also provides mental stimulation and boosts energy levels. Exercise strengthens the muscles surrounding the eyes.
To prevent eye damage, you need to follow safety guidelines. Before playing sports or engaging in contact sports, you must check whether the sport is safe for your eyes. You can consult your optometrist or doctor for advice.
These are just a few tips on how to relieve tired looking eyes. Hopefully, you’ll find them helpful. Remember, taking care of your eyes is even more important than brushing your teeth!”
