How To Not Procrastinate On Homework

“Procrastination is the act of putting off doing something until later, usually with negative results. The longer we put it off, the worse our performance will be when we do finally get around to it. It’s an important skill to learn early on in life because it can lead us down the wrong path and keep us from achieving what we want out of life. If we’re not careful, procrastinating on homework may result in poor grades, missed opportunities, less self-confidence, and even psychological problems.
It’s easy to procrastinate on homework. All you need is one little thing to distract you from what needs to be done and voila! – you’ve just wasted hours upon hours.
The biggest obstacle between you and success is lack of motivation. We all know that procrastinating leads to bad consequences but sometimes it doesn’t feel like there is any urgency about getting things done. What should you do? Try these tips…
Get Organized
You are more likely to procrastinate if you don’t have a set plan or idea for completing your work. Get some sort of outline so that you know where you’re going and how much time each step takes. This helps you stay focused and makes it easier to manage your workload.
Eliminate Distractions
Make sure that you aren’t distracted by anything else while working. Turn off the TV, computer, phone, etc. Make yourself comfortable. Find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted. Having distractions at hand can help you procrastinate further.
Prioritize. Before starting your assignment, decide which parts are most important. Write them down. Then start only on those tasks first and stop as soon as possible. When you take breaks, focus on other activities. For example, instead of watching television during lunch break, try playing a game or reading a book.
Set Goals. Give yourself deadlines. A deadline gives you a sense of urgency. Knowing exactly how long something will take gives you something concrete to work towards.
Take a Break. Breaks are essential to good health and to complete assignments. They are also necessary to give your brain enough rest to think clearly. Don’t use this as an excuse to avoid your homework. Go outside, read a book, talk to friends, go for a walk, exercise, listen to music, etc. Anything except sitting at home and focusing on your work.
Reward Yourself. After every small accomplishment (such as finishing a certain task), reward yourself with something fun. Some examples include: a movie ticket, dinner out, a night on the town, etc.
Hold Yourself Accountable. Tell someone else about your progress. Your parents, teacher, coach, or another trusted adult. Ask them to hold you accountable for your goals and make sure they follow up with you. Make them aware of your procrastination problem and ask their advice regarding how you might overcome it.
Learn How To Do Things Right
Some people seem to always find ways to procrastinate. These methods often involve using excuses, making up reasons why you can’t finish a particular task right now, distracting themselves with other activities, etc. Here are some common tactics used by procrastinators and how you can beat them:
“”I’ll do it tomorrow.”” Tomorrow never comes.
“”I’m too busy.”” Actually, you could probably find 5 minutes to spare.
“”My mom did my homework for me last year.”” Maybe she was better than you.
“”What’s the point?”” There isn’t really no point in doing the work.
“”This sucks!”” Why does everything suck today? Life shouldn’t be this way.
“”I don’t know how.”” Learn how.
“”No one expects perfection anyway.”” Everyone knows that mistakes happen. Nobody wants to see yours.
“”I don’t care.”” Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean others don’t.
“”I hate math.”” So quit.
“”I don’t understand.”” Read again.
“”I’d rather play video games.”” Who says you can’t do both?
“”Why bother?”” Because you don’t want to mess up your grade.
“”Nothing ever works out for me.”” Are you trying hard enough?
“”I don’t know where to begin.”” Begin anywhere.
“”I am overwhelmed.”” Pick a section and tackle it piecemeal.
“”I don’t have time.”” Time is relative.
“”It’s more fun to watch TV.”” Watching TV is passive entertainment.
“”I’ll figure it out myself.”” Figure out how you’re supposed to do it.
“”I’ll look online.”” Google can answer almost any question.
“”I’ll cheat.”” No cheating!
“”I’ll just copy somebody else’s answers.”” That’s plagiarism.
“”I’ll forget.”” Memorization beats rereading.
“”Well, I guess I’ll just skip class then.”” Skip it.
“”Let’s wait and see.”” Waiting rarely solves anything.
“”Just leave it blank.”” Put a big fat zero next to it.
“”I’ll just do it wrong and fix it later.”” First learn how to do it correctly.
“”I’ll just tell Mom/Dad/teacher I didn’t understand.”” Lie to protect your reputation.
“”I don’t know where to start.”” Start wherever you wish.
“”I’ll just do the minimum.”” Doing the minimum gets you nothing.
“”I’ll just do it wrong and correct it later.”” Correcting after you’ve messed up is a waste of time.
“”It’s easier to say ‘no’ than ‘yes.'”” Saying “”no”” saves time and energy.
“”I’ll just do it half-assedly.”” Half-assing is half-effort.
“”It’s okay if I miss a few questions; I can still pass.”” Missed questions count against you.
“”I’ll just lie.”” Honesty counts.
“”I’m already late for school/work/game/etc. Let’s hurry up and get through this.”” Hurry up.
“”If I’m not ready yet, I’ll just postpone it till later.”” Postpone it.
“”I’m tired.”” Sleep is overrated.
“”I’m sick.”” Only if you’re actually ill.
“”I’m hungry.”” Eat.
“”I’m depressed.”” Therapy can help.
“”I’m bored.”” Watch movies, read books, go out with friends, join a club, volunteer, etc.
“”Lazy.”” Maybe you’re just lazy.
“”Just let me sleep it off.”” Sleeping doesn’t solve anything.
“”I’m just not into it.”” If you hate math, drop it.
“”I’m scared.”” Face your fears head-on.
“”I’m not smart enough.”” Maybe you’re just not willing to study.
“”I don’t feel like it.”” Sometimes feeling like it is more important than knowing.
“”Maybe I’ll do it tomorrow.”” Tomorrow never comes.
“”Maybe I’ll just skip class then.”” Skipping classes is stupid.
“”I don’t care.”” Whatever.

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. Nevertheless think of if you added some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and videos, this website could definitely be one of the greatest in its field. Superb blog!
