How To Not Worry About The Future

We worry because we are afraid of tomorrow; we fear that it will be worse than today. But worrying doesn’t solve anything; in fact, it usually makes things even more difficult for us. It is a waste of time to worry about something you can do nothing about.
The problem with worrying is that it’s all or nothing. You either spend your entire day worrying or trying desperately to forget about your worries so as not to worry any longer. Either way, you’re stuck.
You might think you’ll never get out of the rut if you don’t worry at all, but there’s no point in pushing down your feelings. Your mind needs to know what you feel. If you try to suppress them, they’ll eventually come back up when you least expect it.
Here’s how I used to deal with my worries. When I was growing up, I had a lot of anxiety over school exams. My mother would tell me to stop thinking about schoolwork and go play outside. “”Don’t study anymore,”” she’d say. “”Go and run around.””
I couldn’t understand why I felt so nervous. I knew that studying wasn’t going to make any difference anyway. So after class, instead of doing what other kids did, like playing sports or watching TV, I’d sit on the bench and stare into space. After an hour or two of this, I started getting antsy, so I’d wander off by myself until finally falling asleep somewhere along the way.
When I woke up the next morning, I found that I hadn’t done much except walk aimlessly around our neighborhood while dreaming about being anywhere else. Once again, I realized that I was wasting away my time and energy worrying about something that didn’t matter. I decided to give up worrying altogether.
To help you break free from the cycle of needless worrying, let’s look at some common reasons for worrying and ways to overcome them.
Why Do We Worry?
If you have ever noticed yourself worrying about something, then you probably asked yourself why you were doing it. Here are some possible answers:
– Fear — You worry about losing your job, failing your exams, making mistakes, or losing money.
– Guilt — You worry about someone you love, friend, child, or parent, who has died or become sick.
– Shame — You worry about having made a mistake, saying the wrong thing, looking foolish, or disappointing others.
– Anxiety — You worry about health problems, aging, loneliness, rejection, or death.
– Depression — You worry about feeling inadequate, unattractive, isolated, or useless.
– Pride — You worry about maintaining control of your life, avoiding embarrassment, protecting your pride, or looking good before others.
It seems that most of our worries involve one or more of these five factors. They range from mild to severe, but whatever form they take, we tend to react to them in similar ways:
1) With anger, frustration, and blame toward ourselves.
2) By becoming anxious and depressed.
3) By attempting to avoid the situation.
4) By focusing on the negative aspects of the event.
5) By clinging to false hopes and refusing to face reality.
But none of these reactions does anything to improve the situation. In fact, they only add to the problem.
How Can We Overcome Our Fears?
So what should we do to rid ourselves of our fears? First, realize that you cannot change the past. You cannot undo the mistakes you’ve already made, nor can you erase the disappointments you’ve suffered. You can only learn from your experiences and move forward.
Second, accept responsibility for everything that happens to you. Acceptance means understanding that you are responsible for everything that happens to you.
Third, acknowledge that you can’t always control every aspect of your circumstances. Sometimes people, situations, and events happen beyond your control. There are many times when you must just roll with the punches and go with the flow. Acceptance also means recognizing those moments when you are powerless and helpless.
Fourth, believe in yourself. Don’t allow anyone to discourage you. Even though you may be dealing with a painful experience, keep your faith in life and destiny. Believe that you can overcome difficulties.
Fifth, remember that happiness isn’t dependent upon external conditions. Happiness comes from within. You decide what causes you joy and sorrow.
Sixth, forgive yourself and everyone involved. Forgiveness implies that you choose to set aside grudges and resentment against others and yourself. It allows you to let go of negative emotions and move on without holding onto bitterness.
Seventh, accept the present moment and focus on what you want right now. Every moment offers you another chance to live a better life. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, concentrate on what you want to achieve in the future.
Eighth, develop self-confidence and inner peace. Confidence means knowing that you can handle whatever life throws at you. Inner peace means living your life in quietness and harmony.
Ninth, find purpose in your life. Purposeful living involves finding meaning and direction in your daily activities. It requires developing goals, building meaningful relationships, and contributing to society.
Tenth, practice acceptance and forgiveness. As human beings, we naturally resist change. We cling stubbornly to our old habits and beliefs. We refuse to see new possibilities. The best way to overcome resistance is through acceptance and forgiveness.
Eleventh, trust in divine guidance and protection. Trust is believing in unseen forces that are bigger than you. It’s trusting in higher powers that guide your path and protect you.
Twelfth, cultivate gratitude. Gratitude is appreciation for everything that occurs in your life. It helps you recognize blessings rather than burden yourself with burdensome thoughts.
Thirteenth, use relaxation techniques. Meditation, prayer, and breathing exercises can help calm your nerves and relieve stress. Find a relaxing activity that works for you such as listening to music, reading, walking, gardening, or spending time outdoors.
Fourteenth, schedule time to worry. This strategy helps you release pent-up emotions and clear your mind. Make sure to allot enough time to worry, since some worries require extensive thought.
Ffifteenth, replace worrisome thoughts with positive ones. Negative thoughts often cause us to dwell on failure, disappointment, illness, or loss. Replacing negative thoughts with positive ones helps you stay focused on achieving worthwhile objectives.
Sixteenth, seek professional counseling. Therapy sessions help you gain insight into your emotional state and identify solutions to your problems.
Finally, don’t forget that it’s okay to ask for help. Seeking assistance from trained professionals can provide relief from stressful situations.

Now that you’ve learned some helpful tips on overcoming your worries, what should you do next? Start using these strategies immediately. You’ll start noticing changes in your attitude and outlook on life in just a few days.
Remember, it takes 21 days to create a habit. It takes 3 weeks to master a skill. It takes 66 days to turn your life around. That’s how long it takes to build healthy new behaviors.
Once you begin practicing new coping skills and positive thoughts, you’ll notice that your general mood improves dramatically. Soon, you’ll begin transforming your life into one of success and achievement!”
