Is Honeycomb Good For You

Honeycomb is a natural bee product consisting of waxy, hexagonal cells which contain raw honey. It’s the wax from these cells that gives honey it’s distinctive taste or sweetness when you bite into one. The bees use this material to build their hives, so they don’t have access to it otherwise. Because of its unique properties, honeycomb can be used for many purposes besides storing honey; some of them include:
Flooring underlayment – This helps strengthen the floor by providing support for heavy furniture.
Rubber floor tiles – They’re made from recycled rubber tires and provide an extra layer of protection on top of your existing tile floors.
Cookware coverings – These come in sheets and can be cut to size to help keep food fresh longer.
Bathroom liners – Also known as bathroom tissue, toilet paper, facial tissues, napkins, towels, etc., they absorb liquid quickly while keeping your skin dryer than regular paper.
Soap containers – Instead of using plastic ones, make your own soap dispensers out of honeycomb! Just cut it down to fit inside and screw on the lid.
Firewood – Beeswax candles are often coated with honey before burning because it protects the candle flame from harsh weather conditions. Cut off pieces of honeycomb and burn them over a fire to add a sweet aroma and preserve wood for later use.
And finally, it’s not only the bees who benefit from honeycomb. People do too. Here are just a few ways honeycomb has been shown to improve human health:
Antibacterial – Studies have shown honey can kill bacteria and viruses, including MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). When honey is applied directly to infected areas, it kills germs without causing harm to living tissue. While most types of bacteria are killed within minutes, the effect lasts much longer against fungi.
Anti-inflammatory – A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic & Laser Therapy concluded that honey promotes healing of acne lesions at twice the rate of benzoyl peroxide cream alone. Other studies show honey reduces inflammation caused by eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, dandruff, fungal infection, insect bites, sunburns, cuts, burns, rashes, bruises and even toothaches.
Cancer prevention – Honey contains antioxidants called flavonoids which prevent cancerous cells from developing. Flavones have been found to reduce the growth of tumor cells by 30 percent, according to the American Cancer Society.
Heart disease prevention – Sugar contributes empty calories that lead to weight gain. Eating honey instead of refined sugars may lower cholesterol levels due to its high fiber content. In addition, research shows honey improves blood circulation and prevents clogged arteries.
Liver health – Although more tests need to be conducted, preliminary evidence points towards honey being beneficial for treating certain diseases such as hepatitis C, cirrhosis and gallstones. Honey boosts liver enzymes which aid in digestion and metabolize fats, proteins, carbohydrates and other substances.
Diabetes management – According to a study in the International Journal of Medical Sciences, honey can increase insulin sensitivity, which helps manage diabetes symptoms.
Prevention of colds and flu – Honey contains hydrogen peroxide, which has antiviral properties. Hydrogen peroxide therapy is commonly used to treat viral respiratory tract infections such as influenza, common colds and sinus infections. It also strengthens the immune system and aids in recovery time.
Boost energy level – Honey is 60% glucose and 40% fructose. Glucose raises blood sugar levels while fructose keeps blood sugar up but does not raise it as significantly as glucose. Research shows honey increases endurance during exercise and enhances performance during workouts.
Easier wound healing – A study published in Clinical Nutrition reviews showed honey reduced scarring after surgery. Another review published in the journal Dermatology Online reported honey speeds up wound healing.
Good source of protein – Protein plays an essential role in our body by forming muscles, bones, hair and nails. Honey provides 3 grams of protein per tablespoon.
Fats – Honey doesn’t contain any fat, unlike artificial sweeteners which leave behind harmful trans-fats. One teaspoon of honey contains less than 1 gram of saturated fat.
Sugar alcohols – Since honey doesn’t contain any water, it cannot ferment like sugar. As a result, it produces no unwanted side effects like flatulence.
If you’ve read through this article, you know honey is good for you. Now here’s how you can get even better results: eat honey, drink tea with honey, apply honey, take supplements with honey, etc. But I’m sure you already knew about all those things anyway. So what else could you possibly want?
