Legs Fall Asleep On Toilet
Legs Fall Asleep On Toilet: I have never been one for extreme sports or doing anything dangerous, but I do love to get out of my head once in a while by taking some silly risks like jumping off bridges into rivers with no safety net below me. That’s how I ended up in an emergency room on Tuesday morning after falling asleep while sitting on the toilet.
It was about 11 p.m., and I’d just finished eating dinner when I went to take a shower. After getting lathered up, I stood under the spray thinking about what I wanted to write next in my blog post. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain run down from my stomach all the way through my back to my butt area. It hurt so bad that it woke me up immediately.
After looking at myself in the mirror, I noticed my right leg looked weird. My skin had turned red and there were white spots all over the place. Then I realized why — my pants were around mid-thigh. And then another realization dawned on me as I saw more blood gushing out of my crotch — I hadn’t taken them off before going to sleep! But wait a minute, I’m not wearing any briefs — I always wear boxers. So, this is what happened.
All of sudden, without realizing it, I sat down on the toilet and fell asleep. When I awoke, my leg wasn’t moving and I couldn’t feel anything from my knee down. I tried to lift my leg up, but nothing worked. I’ve fallen asleep many times before, but this time I must have really let myself go because I can only assume I slept for hours.
My first thought was something terrible had happened to my leg, so I rushed straight to the hospital. The doctors didn’t seem too concerned about it at first. They said it could be a pinched sciatic nerve, which happens sometimes if you sit for long periods of time. But then they checked my blood sugar and found it was low. That meant I needed immediate IV fluids.
The nurse gave me a shot of normal saline fluid to hydrate me, and I started getting regular infusions of glucose every five minutes. By 2 a.m., my blood sugar level was starting to stabilize, though I still had a lot of work ahead of me. While waiting for tests, I got to talk to two other patients who also experienced similar accidents. One man fell asleep in his car on the way home from the barbershop, and when he woke up, both his feet were frozen. Another guy fell asleep while walking downstairs and broke his hip.
At 4 a.m., my doctor came into my cubicle to tell me that everything seemed fine except for the fact that my leg wouldn’t move. He said it might be a pinched nerve, but not to worry since we still have plenty of time to figure things out. He ordered x-rays, and the results weren’t good. Not only did they show a herniated disc between the L4 and S1 vertebrae (the lower part of your lumbar region), but there was also evidence of bone spurs pressing on the nerves. Apparently, these conditions are known as degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis respectively.
So now I’m stuck in bed, unable to even roll over in order to relieve my own discomfort. Fortunately, I’ve got my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro nearby, so I’ll probably spend most of the day browsing the internet. If you’re wondering what a herniated disc is, here’s a quick explainer. These bulges occur when a weakened portion of cartilage tears away from the bone underneath. A herniation usually occurs at the base of the spine, close to the spinal cord. This causes severe pain along with problems with the bowel, bladder, and sexual functions. Luckily, the symptoms don’t last forever. Once the tear heals, you should be able to walk normally again.
If you want to know more about the scary condition I suffered from, read the full story here.

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
