What Is The Refractory Period
“Do you know what happens when an erection becomes erect? What if I ask you how long does this take? Or maybe even, “”How long can an erection last?”” Well, if you are like most men, your answer would be, “”A few hours.”” This is because in general we understand that sex lasts around four or five hours and then there’s a break of about half-an-hour before you masturbate again.
But did you know that the average time between climaxes (or multiple climaxes) is actually much longer than this? In fact, the refractory period is usually the recovery phase after orgasm during which it is physiologically impossible for a man to have additional orgasms.
Why Does It Exist?
The refractory period exists as a means by which our bodies protect us from over stimulation. It was first identified by the French physiologist Paul Pussard who experimented with rats back in 1874. He noticed that female rats were able to become pregnant every day, but male rats could only conceive once per week. After some thought, he concluded that the female rats were capable of being impregnated more often than not because they had the ability to go through rapid ovulation cycles. Conversely, the males needed the protection of the refractory period so they wouldn’t ejaculate too frequently.
This concept has been found to hold true across all mammals including humans. For example, women require a certain amount of rest between sexual encounters in order to prevent pregnancy. You will find that women tend to wait for several days after their previous sexual encounter before having intercourse again.
So why do we need such a thing? How do these periods work and where do they come from?
The Science Behind Orgasmic Recuperation
When someone has an orgasm, they release a certain amount of neurotransmitters into their system. These are called excitatory neurotransmitters. When released, they cause the body to increase its sensitivity to stimuli. They also help regulate smooth muscle contractions throughout the body. One particular area where they play a large role is within the penis.
After orgasm, the body needs to return to normal function in order to avoid any potential complications later on down the road. The refractory period is the process whereby this occurs. During this time, the body recovers from the effects of the orgasm. As mentioned earlier, this includes returning the muscles to their relaxed state. But just as importantly, the brain sends out inhibitory signals to reduce the levels of excitation. These signals are sent via the parasympathetic nervous system which causes everything to slow down.
During this time, the heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, pulse rate, etc., all decrease. This is done to ensure that no further damage is caused to the body. Once these bodily functions have returned to normal, the man will experience a period of arousallessness. Some may call this ‘the drowsy feeling’. Others may refer to it as the ‘post-coital drop’ or the ‘afterglow’. Either way, this is the end result of the refractory period.
Although this seems counterintuitive at first glance, it makes sense when you consider that we are designed to reproduce and continue along generations. We are meant to pass on our genetic material. If we didn’t enjoy ourselves during sex, we could potentially hurt ourselves physically or emotionally. Our ancestors may have used this period to get away from predators. Nowadays, however, it allows us to recover properly afterwards and prepare ourselves for another round.
Can A Man Have Multiple Ejaculations During The Same Session Of Sex?
Yes – although very rarely. Most guys think that they cannot since it’s medically known as ‘ejaculatory inevitability’. However, it is possible for a guy to ejaculate twice during one session. It requires a special kind of person though; someone who isn’t afraid to experiment and push themselves beyond the usual boundaries.
If you’re wondering whether this is something you should try, there are many reasons why you might want to experiment with this. First off, doing so will allow you to reach higher states of pleasure and satisfaction. Second, it will give you access to new sensations and feelings. Third, it will enable you to explore deeper realms of intimacy with your partner. Fourth, it will provide you with the opportunity to learn things about yourself that you never knew before. And finally, it will give you the chance to show your lover exactly what they mean to you.
Some people claim that if you really love somebody, you shouldn’t care about them finding out how many times you’ve had sex with other girls/women. Yet others say that it doesn’t matter because everybody is different. So, what’s your opinion? Do you believe that ejaculating multiple times during a single session can enhance your relationship with your significant other? Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below!”
