Sagging has been around since humans first started wearing clothes. Some historians believe that sagging came about as early as 600 B.C., thanks to Egyptian pharaohs who wrapped themselves up in strips of cloth to keep warm in cold weather. In fact, it could be argued that sagging is so natural it’s hard to avoid. We naturally sag because our bodies have a tendency to lose muscle tone over time due to aging or lack of exercise. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, which causes us to droop more than usual. Our bones become brittle and break easily, causing our frames to collapse under the weight of gravity. And our muscles get weaker until they finally give out completely.
But even though we all know this inevitable fate awaits us all, most people still refuse to accept it. They don’t want their bodies to change; they want to stay young forever. So what do you do if you feel like you need to fight the aging process? You can follow a strict diet, exercise regularly and use anti-aging creams and lotions. But then again, there are those who think nothing of going to the mall every weekend and buying a new pair of jeans. What makes these folks different — and why their pants never sag — remains unclear.
The most common reason people claim their pants no longer hold up is fashion. People say they buy new jeans every season because styles change. That’s true, but fashion doesn’t always dictate whether your jeans will last. If you wear high heels, your derriere will probably end up looking bigger. If you eat too much fatty food, you won’t see any results without losing weight. Your body also needs enough water to function properly. If you drink lots of soda, you could suffer dehydration. And if you smoke cigarettes, you could have lung cancer. These things happen regardless of what kind of clothes you wear.

They consist mostly of two pieces of material sewn together: a front panel (the part that hangs off your butt) and a back panel (the part that goes across your belly). Each piece consists of multiple layers of fabrics that create separate pockets for keeping stuff inside. When you bend down, your body squeezes these pockets closed. Since everything inside is connected, the pressure caused by bending your knees compresses both sides of the pocket equally. This gives one side of each pocket equal stress.
When you stand upright, you release the pressure on the pocket. However, your lower body continues pressing against it because of gravity. When the pocket stretches to accommodate your squatting position, it starts to lose its shape. Once you sit back down, your hips and thighs continue squeezing the pocket into a smaller space. This forces the pocket to expand further, which increases the tension on the seams holding the pant leg onto the rest of the fabric. Eventually, the fabric weakens and tears apart. At this point, the pants fall down around your ankles.

What Causes Sagging?

There are several reasons why your pants might start to sag. A few of them are listed below:
Fashion. Just like anything else, fashion can play a big role in determining how long something lasts. If you choose trendy styles that quickly fade away after a couple months, you’ll end up having to replace them sooner than you would have otherwise. On top of that, the materials used to make certain items of clothing such as jeans aren’t durable enough to withstand constant stretching and folding.
Weight gain. Losing excess fat is great for preventing sagging. Unfortunately, it takes quite a while for your body to drop the pounds once you reach adulthood, especially if you don’t live an active lifestyle. For this reason, many people resort to unhealthy methods to get rid of extra fat, such as extreme diets and skipping meals. Both of these techniques could lead to severe health problems later on.
Poor maintenance. Another reason pants can sag is because of poor maintenance. If you leave your jeans rolled up during the day, they’ll eventually get dirty from being exposed to dust particles, dirt and other grime. After a while, your jeans will absorb all the moisture in the air. To prevent liquid from damaging the fibers, you should wash your jeans as soon as possible. Leaving them dirty and wet will increase the amount of wrinkles they accumulate. Wrinkles are another problem that can contribute to sagging. Over time, they form deep holes in the fabric, which allow more air to pass through. Dryer sheets can help reduce wrinkles.
Your body changes over time. Aging isn’t fun for anyone. Even if you try to hide your advancing years, you’ll inevitably notice your appearance changing. One of the main culprits of this is loss of muscle tissue. Muscles provide support for your frame, which helps reduce the effects of sagging. Without them, your skin folds will gradually loosen, allowing more room for your pants to hang down past your ankles. Your joints will become less flexible, making it harder to maintain balance.

Still others shuffle along, barely lifting their feet above the ground. While this observation seems to apply mainly to adults, kids tend to walk in similar ways. Many children slouch forward and lean toward their left arms, as if their upper halves were trying to drag their lower halves behind them.
It turns out that everybody does this because of something called the gait cycle. It describes the motion of a person’s foot as he or she walks. There are four phases within the gait cycle: heel strike, mid stance, toe off and swing phase. During the first phase, the heel hits the floor. In the second stage, the ball of the foot flattens the arch and pushes upward. Next, the toes push downward, followed shortly afterward by the heel striking the floor again. Finally, the whole foot swings forward, moving the body forward.
During each phase, the foot experiences varying amounts of force. Most people experience the largest impact during heel strike. Because of this, sagging occurs mostly in the area around the waistline. In addition, many experts agree that sagging tends to occur more frequently in areas that receive repeated contact with flat surfaces, such as sidewalks.
One way to combat the effects of sagging is to add a belt to your pants. Belts serve as anchors for your shirt sleeves, helping them remain in place. They also protect your stomach from rubbing directly against the floor. In general, a belt should cover about half of your abdomen. Adding a belt to your pants will give them a better shape and help them retain their original size.
Another trick to combat sagging is to wear low-rise pants. Low-rise pants lift your rear up higher and thus eliminate the gap between your bottom and the floor. This prevents your legs from dragging on the ground, which reduces the pressure on your lower body.

Conversely, tight clothing restricts the wearer’s movements. Although this may sound counterintuitive, tight clothing is beneficial for people who are overweight. Wearing tight clothing helps regulate bowel functions and improves blood circulation.”
